By now, most of us know that what we put inside our bodies matters. But what about what we put ON our bodies?
Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs whatever we put on it. Think about that.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including, but not limited to asthma, learning disabilities, cancer and infertility) are on the rise, and due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
Those are things we can’t control, but we CAN control what we put on our bodies, so why wouldn’t we choose safer options?
That’s where Beautycounter comes in. Beautycounter is a start-up in Santa Monica, CA (my old stomping grounds) whose mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I fell so in love with the company that I had to get involved & help spread the mission.
What is crazy to me is that the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. That’s INSANE!
So basically companies can put whatever they want in personal care products, slap an “all natural” label on it and call it a day! Not cool.
The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11 to date. Again, crazy.
Beautycounter is about more than just selling face lotion and makeup. They are actually affecting change and lobbying in Washington to get more regulation in the beauty industry. These are some bad-ass ladies, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an inspiring company.
This B Corporation has banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard and has the strictest safety screening process for skincare in the U.S., if not the world. They do the homework for you and have created something called the Never List; harmful ingredients they will NEVER put in their products. Who has the time to read all the labels, let alone understand what they all mean? I know I don’t.
